Q.- What is a database driven web application?
A.- A database driven web application in it's simplest form is a web site that generates pages dynamically using information pulled from a database. This means that the content of a page can be different from view to view based on parameters passed to the code, without actually changing any code itself. Almost any website that has or requires a login in order to view certain areas of the site, is driven dynamically by a back-end database. A web application is web-based software that can be accessed and content modified by anyone, without having to install software on potentially thousands of client computers. Common Web applications include Webmail, online retail sales, online auctions, wikis, discussion boards, Weblogs, MMORPGs and many other functions, most, if not all of which are database-driven. The most common use of a database driven web application is to rapidly develop extensive websites with potentially thousands of pages within a matter of days or hours. Most database driven web applications contain some type of Content Management System (CMS) which allows users (usually specifically defined administrators) to add, update, or delete content from a graphical user interface (GUI) directly on their website.

Q.- Who will host my web application?
A.- There are many options available for hosting web sites and web applications. These options range from shared hosting, perhaps $9.99 per month to a dedicated server hosting only your web application for in the hundreds to thousands per month. Shared hosting usually involves being thrown on a large server with hundreds or thousands of other customers, dramatically fracturing the speed of the server among each site. Dedicated Servers host only your web site(s) or application(s) and devote their entire purpose of existence to serving your web site's needs. These dedicated servers are extremely fast and reliable but usually extremely costly and difficult to set up.

Websona's database driven web applications and web sites usually require certain settings to be enabled or disabled on a server. On a shared server you do not have access to these settings and many times our applications do not work on them. We strongly recommend that your web site or application be hosted with us at Websona so that we can keep in constant oversight of the performance of said application. Websona does not offer shared hosting options based simply on principle. We offer only dedicated and "semi-dedicated" options. Our dedicated server's are ordered on-demand and set up by our professonal Linux Server Administrators. The less-costly and most-recommended option, semi-dedicated, puts your application on a dedicated server serving no more than 25 sites at a time, not a hundred, not a thousand, but only 25. This ensures the blazing-fast speed of a dedicated server, but costs significatly less and not even near the amount of headaches.
